Here's another shot from
Xiao Yan Jing's Coffee House. That's Xiao Yan Jing on the right and her best buddy Rachel on the left. I'm the dork in the moustache. We hung out a lot at the coffee house (which Xiao Yan recently sold) and the disco.
UPDATE: I ran into Rachel one night in downtown HANGZHOU. I didn't recognize her at first as she had long hair and was 8 months pregnant. I can now report that she and her husband are the proud parents of a beautiful Chinese/American baby boy.
Helen is a
schoolteacher from Suzhou and one of my friends in Suzhou. After making a guest appearance at her First Grade English class, she and I went to climb Tian Ping Shan (mountain) outside Suzhou. Tian Ping Shan is famous for it's memorials to, and maple tree forest planted in honor of, Fan Zhong Yan (b.960- d.1127) one of China's finest writers and a reknowned prime
minister during the Song Dynasty. It was at Tian Ping Shan that "he studied diligently during his childhood." Helen and I? We just had a good time exploring the crevices of this beautiful mountain after a hard day of class.
From Helen's expression here, in her first grade class a few weeks later, you can see she was only mildly amused that I posted the previous picture on the Internet ...............
.......... so I think I better post the one she gave me the following week.

Fellow Clevelander, Judy Charlick, my colleague in the the Foreign Language Dept. at Suzhou University. She's from Cleveland State. While we floated through summer monsoons teaching classes, her husband Bob sabbated and indulged his creativity.
