st. patrick's day in china

I experienced my first St. Patrick's Day in China in Jinzhou in 1998. It was a very strange experience.

In China, St. Patrick's Day is known as Ai Er Lan Guo Qing Jie (Ireland National Day).

But they still haven't figured out why all the laowai in China - Irish and non-Irish alike - celebrate this special day of the year. The age-old axiom that "Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day" is still pretty much lost on the Chinese. Nevertheless, every laowai in China, no matter what race or nationality, celebrates St. Patrick's Day.

Read/view on for proof. Slainche!
