Winter Holiday -2001
Winter English Camp
I and my Chinese colleague from Jinzhou, Professor Liu, taught a group of junior high school students in Panjin during winter holiday, 2001. It was COLD (-15 C/ 5 F) but the students' hearts warmed me up. Panjin is located in Liaoning Province about an hour from Jinzhou. It sits on the Liao He Oil Field which is the third largest oil field in China.
So it's an Oil Town - and the second-wealthiest city in Liaoning.
Prior to beginning the Winter English Camp, a group of the Panjin Students and I toured Harbin - The Ice Festival Capital of China where it was even COLDER (-30 C/-22 F).

Meanwhile, back in Panjin.................

Our first day in Panjin featured an "English Party" at the Wu Xing Hotel where over 300 people showed up. As the only foreigner in town, I was the featured attraction. Here I pose with a couple of teachers and some students at the end of the "party".
So classes started in Panjin and Professor Liu and I had a wonderful (but COLD!) time. During the Winter Camp, it was my birthday. On that day, I walked into the classroom totally unprepared and............
