Teaching Baseball
Hey, it looks like fun and games but REALLY!, there is a good American idioms English lesson in teaching my students about baseball.

"Up to bat", "Two strikes against you", "Hit a home run", "Grand Slam", "the bases are loaded", "full count", "bottom of the ninth", "to strikeout", "to throw someone a fastball/curveball", etc. You don't realize how many expressions from baseball we Americans use in our everyday English until you try to find justification to devote an entire lesson to baseball.(Yes, that's a beat-up old broom in my hand. It's all I could get my hands on.)

Xita Temple

Xita Temple

Xita Temple sits on top of West Hill in Yueqing, Zhejiang Province where I spent part of my Spring Festival Holiday.

If I look tired, it's because it's a 700 foot climb to the top.

Chinese Sweatshop?

Of course not! Here I am conducting a training class for engineers and administrative staff at the Delphi-Delco plant in Suzhou. The plant and offices are beautiful, well-equipped, and ultra-modern. And the people working their are bright, well-educated, wonderful and happy!

April Fool

Chuck gets married!?!?!?!

In March, 2000 I was invited to work with a local model, Lei Zi, her to make a TV commercial for a local Wedding Photography Studio. This is a picture from the shoot. Here, Lei Zi and I pose as husband and wife in traditional Chinese wedding attire. Lei Zi is wearing traditional Chinese marriage Qi Pao.

When I sent this picture to my friends and family in America and showed it to my students in Jinzhou, it caused quite a stir. Until they realized it was April 1.

A Great Man?

On the Great Wall at Badaling outside of Beijing.
Mao Ze Dong once said, Ÿou are not a great man until you have visited The Great Wall.

I've been to the Great Wall twice so far. What does that make me?
