Run Run Shaw Hospital (Shao Yifu Hospital) : Located at 3 East
Qingchun Rd., an American doctor is available from 8:00 am to 5:00
pm. A pediatric outpatient clinic is open during these hours as well and
on Saturday 8:00-12:00.

Hangzhou Places of Interest and Contact Information
Hangzhou International School: Certified teachers providing an international
curriculum through an American framework, HIS offers an English-only program
for students ages 3-13 (some older students can be accomodated). The program
is delivered on a campus of over 20,000 square meters located at 80 Dongxin
Road in Hangzhou's Binjiang District.Contact principal Derek Luebbe for more

Hangzhou Silk Market, a pedestrian street of retail and wholesale
silk shops located at Fengqi Road. A wholesale warehouse (outdoor market) with
a large selection of clothing articles is located at the end of the
Silk Market just on the other side of Fengqi Lu. Almost all types of clothing
are available at good prices.
Hangzhou Aquarium - small, but well-planned aquarium containing first floor
exhibits of numerous fish. (Walk through a glass tunnel surrounded by fish!)
Second floor contains an assortment of hands-on games, primarily for children.
Admission is 50 RMB for adults. Children under 1 meter are free. Located near
the southeast corner of the West Lake.
Clark Hatch Gyms: Two gyms with good facilities. One is located on the
5th floor of the Holiday Inn, 289 Jianguo Lu; the other is located in
Hangzhou DaShia ( new department store just off the West Lake one block north
of PingHai Lu).
Feeling bored on a rainy afternoon... the provincial library offers
a large collection of quite recent magazines and a lot of books about subjects
from philosophy to sociology and history. It smells a bit like a hospital and
the interior isn't that nice, but the good books can make up for a lot. Take
some kind of id with you and pay 1 RMB for a day-pass which gives you access
to all reading rooms. The library is in front of the Yellow Dragon Sports Centre
on Shuguang Road.
Upcoming Events
The Hangzhou International School is trying to organize the ex-pat
community in the hopes of obtaining a Western medical facility -primarily for
children - here in Hangzhou. A letter, written from the school and on behalf
of the business community, will be sent to local officials in early December.
Members of the international medical organization SOS will be visiting Hangzhou
in January and have requested a "town meeting". If you are interested in helping
in this matter: 1) email Derek Luebbe at dlluebbe@hotmail.com to indicate that you would be willing to have your name and
company's name attached to this letter...or if you'd like to reveiw the letter,
you can request that as well. 2) Pay attention to this newsletter to hear
day and time information for a "town meeting" with the SOS organization.
The Hangzhou International Church offers non-denominational
service at 10:30 am every Sunday. The church is located at 132 JeiFang

A Saturday morning soccer league for children (ages 4-11) is
being planned to begin in late January (tentatively). Games will be held at
the Hangzhou International School. The league would last approximately
10 Saturdays. The cost would be 100 RMB. Please contact Derek Luebbe via email

The Caribbean Restaurant, 58 Yanan Lu, a buffet for 65 RMB of salads,
side dishes, and skewers of different meats and vegetables delivered to your
table.
Kana Pub and Les Ripailles Restaurant: 152 Nanshan Lu. Western

Reggae Pub: 46 Shuguang Lu. Popular with foreign students which
offers good food , live music
Paradise Rock Restaurant: 36 Hubin Lu, Western food, frequent live
music, casual environment
Pizza Hut: recently moved and now located in the first floor of
Hangzhou DaShia ( new department store just off the West Lake one block north
of PingHai Lu).
Hill Street Barbeque: Latin barbeque located at the southeast
gate of the building for the Hangzhou Daily Newspaper on TiyuChang Lu. Phone

Lou Wai Lou - famous (and popular) Chinese restaurant located
at 30 Gu Shan causeway on the West Lake. Phone 8796-9023.
Paulaner BBQ - located at 315 WenHui Lu in the XinYu City Hotel
on the 21st floor, 58 rmb per person for skewers of meat, phone 8539-4888 ext.

Looking for some nice but not too expensive Cantonese Dim Sum? The Bifeng
Tang restaurant does good Shrimp Dumplings, Egg Tarts and loads of other delicacies.
From the same chain as the Bifeng Tang in Shanghai. Located on corner of Huansha
Road and Pinghai Road, next to Friendship Hotel.
Shopping
Now is the time to buy some clothes at Intime Department Store.
If you buy an item of over 600 RMB you get 200RMB discount plus a voucher for
another 200RMB. No idea how long this will last though, so be quick. Check for
the "2+2" sign. Intime is the dept store on Yan'an Road which has a Starbucks
on the second floor.
Metro Supermarket - German multi-purpose store located in the northeast
part of Hangzhou. Located at 355 GenShan Lu
Trustmart - multi-purpose store located just northwest of the West
Lake at 26 ShuGuang Lu.
